You’ve most likely heard his name somewhere before, perhaps even seen him, or even spoken with him. Víťa Marčík, a native of Moravia who eventually moved with his family to a beautiful farmstead in Drahotěšice, South Bohemia, is one of the most famous Czech comedians! He trained as an electrician and worked at the Tesla electronics plant. After the Velvet Revolution, he began performing fairy tales for children, which he still enjoys doing today—and honestly, not just for children. Every adult will be entertained from start to finish.
His fairy tales are full of wonderful humor, songs, incredible interactions with audiences of all ages, as well as delightful comedic situations and beautifully crafted, perfectly thought-out props. They all have happy endings and never get old; you can watch them over and over again, and there will always be something different. Children learn several valuable lessons in each one, and these are truly important pieces of life advice—or, if you will, life wisdom.
Later, Víťa began to focus on plays with religious themes, as he is a devout believer and God provides him with a certain source of energy, which he then passes on to others through his performances. This is how, for example, his Moravian Passion came to be. Víťa performs Passion and Christmas plays with his family during the periods leading up to Christmas and Easter, most often in churches; these performances have an incredible atmosphere, and individuals can become aware of their own existence.
He also performs plays for adults and teenagers, such as Daniel Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe or Jan Amos Comenius’s The Labyrinth of the World and the Paradise of the Heart.
Víťa himself has several children and has helped numerous children in orphanages throughout his life. He is a wonderful, smiling, and sensible man—a very pleasant person whom it is a joy to meet. He has also participated in international festivals several times and even performs his plays in Spanish! His family theater is also part of a larger group called Komedianti, responsible for beautiful productions such as Romeo and Juliet, the Marion cabaret, and many others.
If you haven’t seen any of his work yet, be sure to catch up as soon as possible!
